The Layover

Okay, this one is just for funsies.

Becoming an American citizen last fall has made traveling so much easier. One of the great perks is being able to leave airports during layovers. I happened to have a five hour one in London, and I decided to make the best of it.

It was a blast. I figured out how to ride the 'tube' and get my way into town to some major landmarks. For about three hours, I was that ridiculous tourist with camera and outdoor gear, confused and entertained by every little detail around me. The kind that take up space the sidewalk and you just want to punch... But hey, nobody knows me there. It was much fun. So here are some pictures:

Big Ben!

The taxies are so cute.

My mother always says you must take pictures with the landmarks to show you were actually there. The problem is of course, that when you travel alone, asking people to take your pictures can result in some really bad photography....

Case in point

This was the Metro policeman, Richard. I found his hat awesome, so I asked to take a picture.

The buses.

Getting there the day after the Jubilee was like London on steroids. So easy to just get in the spirit. A nice Jubilee ale to top my express London experience.

Hmm...pie.
The one thing I unfortunately missed out in was the awesome furry hatted guards =(. Because of the Jubilee and the upcoming Olympics the area around Buckingham Palace was closed off. Next time, London.
